The Correlation between Vitamin D Receptor Gene Polymorphism and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus of the Han Nationality in Kunming Region

  • [Abstract]Objective To explore the correlation between vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism and type 2 diabetes mellitus of the Han nationality in Kunming region. Methods One-hundred-twenty-six Kunming individuals(90 T2DMs and 36 controls)were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial. rs7975232 single nucleotide polymorphism (SN+J8Ps) of the VDR was tested by using Polymerase chain reaction of restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP), the genotype and its frequencies were compared between the two groups.Results(1)There were statistically significant association in three kinds of genotype of ApaI of VDR gene polymorphism between two groups(P<0.001). The C/A genotype was more common in T2DM patients (62.2% vs 38.9%). (2)Statistic analysis software showed that the frequency of C/A genotype of ApaI was higher than that in the control group(OR=1.36, 95%CI: 0.54-1.71). Whats more, age in T2DM group were also higher than that in the control group(OR= 1.09,95% CI: 1.03-1.18 ). 25OHD3 in T2DM group was lower than that in the control group (OR=0.84,95%CI:0.73-0.93),suggesting that C/A genotype and age are risk factors of T2DM. Meanwhile 25OHD3 may be a preventive factor of T2DM.Conclusions(1)There is a significant correlation between C/A genotype of rs7875232 and the prevalence of T2DM of the Han nationality in Kunming region.(2)25OHD3 is a protective factor of T2DM and the aging is a risk factor of T2DM.
