The Efficacy and Safety of Alpha Lipoic Acid Combined with Methycobal for Patients with Type-2 Diabetes Combined with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy

  • [Abstract]Objective To study the efficacy and safety of alpha lipoic acid combined with methycobal for patients with type-2 diabetes combined with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.Methods The 80 patients with type-2 diabetes combined with diabetic peripheral neuropathy in our hospital during the period from Feb 2012 to Feb 2014 were randomized into the control group(methycobal)and the observation group (methycobal combined with alpha lipoic acid ),40 patients per group.The clinical efficacy,nerve conduction velocity and symptom TSS scores,pain VAS scores on pre- and post-treatment in two groups were compared. Results Compared with the control group,the total effective rate was significantly increased in the observation group with statistical difference(P<0.05);compared with the control group,the movement and sensory nerve conduction velocities were significantly increased on post-treatment in the observation group with statistical difference (P<0.05);compared with the control group,the TSS scores and VAS scores were obviously decreased on post-treatment in the observation group with statistical difference(P<0.05).There were no obvious adverse reactions during the treatment period.Conclusion The treatment of alpha lipoic acid combined with methycobal for patients with type-2 diabetes combined with diabetic peripheral neuropathy has the characteristics such as significant efficacy and high safety,can improve the peripheral neuropathy symptoms,and is worthy of clinical promotion.
