Isolation of Endophytic Fungi from Ligustrum vicaryi and Screening of Their Antibacterial Activity

  • [Abstract]Objective The study was aimed to investigate the diversity of endophytic fungi from Ligustrum vicaryi and their antibacterial activity. Methods Endophytic fungi were isolated by the method of explant culture from tissue segments and then cultured in YPD liquid medium,respectively. The fermentation broth and mycelia were extracted with acetone after filtration. Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus were selected as indicators. The extracts were tested by filtering paper method. Results The results indicated that 29 strains were isolated from L. vicaryi,and 25 of them were found to have a certain antibacterial activity(86.2% of the total strains isolated). The other 4 strains were considered inactive(17.2% of the total strains isolated). Conclusion There were abundant endophytic fungi in the stem and leaf of L. vicaryi. Their secondary metabolites showed significant antibacterial activity.
