Expression of E-cadherin and Vimentin and Clinic Significance in Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma

  • [Abstract]Objective To discuss the relationship between the expression of E-cadherin and Vimentin and pathological characteristics in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC). Methods The expression of E-cadherin and Vimentin was detected by immunohistochemistry in ICC and para-carcinoma intrahepatic bile duct(n=50).The correlation between the expression of tumor tissues and the clinicopathological characteristics of ICC was analyzed, and their prognostic implication was evaluated. Results The expression of E-cadherin was significantly lower in ICC than in matched as the upper mentioned tissues (42%vs68%,P<0.05).The expression of Vimentin was significantly higher in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) than matched as the upper mentioned tissues(50%vs30%,P<0.05). Down-regulation of E-cadherin and up-regulation of Vimentin were significantly associated with TNM stage,differentiation,lymph node metastasis of ICC (P< 0.05).For the survival analyses,low E-cadherin expression and positive Vimentin expression were significantly associated with shorter survival(P<0.05).Conclusion Low expression of E-cadherin and high expression of Vimentin in the intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)are correlated with the invasion, migration and poor prognosis, and have clinical significance in judging the prognosis of patients.
