Multivariate Analysis of the Influence Factors of Osteoporosis in Elderly Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Objectives To clarify the related factors of osteoporosis in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and to provide guidance for the prevention and treatment. Methods A total of 121 elderly patients with type 2 diabetes were divided into 2 groups according to China osteoporosis guidelines:case group (n=53) and normal group (n =68) . Different types of data, gender, age, body mass index (BMI) , life activities (aerobic exercise, smoking, drinking, physical activity, diet imbalance, calcium) , blood lipid, renal function, parathyroid hormone, calcium phosphorus product, C reactive protein, diabetic complications, and medications were collected and compared. Results There were significant differences between the two groups in age, BMI, duration of diabetes, parathyroid hormone, urea nitrogen, creatinine, urinary protein, aerobic activity, calcium and insulin treatment (P < 0.05) . Conclusion Age, duration of diabetes, parathyroid and urinary protein are the risk factors of osteoporosis in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Active aerobic activity and intake of calcium are protective factors of osteoporosis in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes.
