Visualization Analysis of Research Trends in Lower Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis Based on Web of Science

  •   Objective   To explore the global trends in lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) from 2013 to 2024 based on bibliometric analysis.   Methods   Literature about DVT with a search timeframe from January 2013 to February 2024 was retrieved from the web of Science core collection (WOSCC). VOSviewer and Bibliometrix package in R software were used to visually analyze the selected articles.   Results  A total of 1836 articles were included after screening, with an annual increase in publication volume since 2013, although there has been a decline in the past two years. Among the 68 countries or regions, the United States ranked first in the number of publications (711 articles, 38.7%), followed by China (475 articles, 25.9%) and Japan (86 articles, 4.7%). The collaboration between the United States and Canada was the most frequent (frequency =34), and the United States had the highest multiple country publications (MCP) rate. Among the 1872 institutions, Harvard University (74 articles, 4.0%), University of California (66 articles, 3.6%), and Mayo Clinic (61 articles, 3.3%) were the top three institutions in terms of publication volume. A total of 435 articles (23.7%) were published in the top ten journals, of which the Journal of vascular surgery-venous and disorders published and cited the most articles (103 articles). The top five authors, ZHANG YZ, ZHU YB, GU JP, ZHANG K, and CHEN W, collectively published 73 articles, and had close cooperative relationships. The top three keywords were deep venous thrombosis (frequency = 631), Venous thromboembolism (frequency = 431) and pulmonary embolism (frequency = 201).   Conclusions   Research interest in lower extremity deep venous thrombosis has been increasing annually; current research hotspots include obesity, validation, hip fractures, and congenital deformities. However, further research and exploration are needed on the risk factors and prevention of DVT and pulmonary embolism.
