Abstract

Abstract

Objective To understand the core knowledge of cancer prevention and control and its influencing factors of residents living in Yunnan-Province ethnic minority area , for putting forward targeted countermeasures and recommendations. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in eight ethnic minority areas in Yunnan Province from September to December 2022, multi-stage probability sampling was used to recruit participants, and their demographic characteristics were collected, the five core areas of cancer prevention and control knowledge: basic knowledge, prevention, early-stage diagnosis and treatment, health management and rehabilitation was included. A binary logistics regression model with the stepwise conditional method was employed to identify the influencing factors asscoiated with the core knowledge of cancer prevention and control. Results A total of 3507 participants were included in this study, and the overall rate of awareness was 52.07%（95%CI: 50.42%～53.72%）. The ethnicity, city/prefecture of residence, education level, occupation, family history of cancer, self-assessment of health status, and whether participated in cancer screening were significantly associated with the awareness rate of cancer prevention knowledge. Conclusions The overall awareness rate of cancer prevention and control is low among eight ethnic minority regions of Yunnan Province. In addition, ethnicity, city/prefecture of residence, education level, occupation, family history of cancer, self-assessment of health status, and whether participated in cancer screening were found to influence residents' core knowledge of cancer prevention and control.
