Abstract

Abstract

Objective To analyze the epidemiological characteristics and trends of malignant tumors in Shidian County from 2016 to 2023. Methods Incidence and mortality data for malignant tumors in Shidian County from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2023 were collected from the China Cancer Registry System. Incidence and mortality characteristics were described by calculating crude rates, age-standardized rates （Chinese standard population and world standard population）, and ranking indicators. The average annual percentage change （AAPC） and its 95% confidence interval （CI） were calculated to analyze incidence and mortality trends. Moran's I index was calculated to conduct spatial autocorrelation analysis. Results From 2016 to 2023, the average annual crude incidence rate of malignant tumors in Shidian County was 186.72 per 100, 000, the Chinese - standardized incidence rate was 155.67 per 100, 000, and the world-standardized incidence rate was 122.55 per 100, 000. The average annual crude mortality rate was 106.35 per 100, 000, the Chinese-standardized mortality rate was 83.40 per 100, 000, and the world - standardized mortality rate was 64.55 per 100, 000. Overall, the age specific incidence and mortality rates of malignant tumors in Shidian County from 2016 to 2023 showed an upward trend with increasing age （χ²_incidence = 6538.313, P < 0.001; χ²_mortality = 7131.931, P < 0.001）. Rates were at a low level among those aged 0–39 years, began to rise from age 40, and peaked in the 75-and-older age group. The crude incidence and crude mortality rates of malignant tumors in Shidian County showed no obvious annual trend from 2016 to 2023; the AAPCs for incidence and mortality were 0.7% （T = 0.9, P = 0.4） and 1.0% （T = 1.1, P = 0.3）, respectively. In terms of incidence and mortality rankings, the top five cancers by incidence from 2016 to 2023 were lung cancer, female breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal cancer, and liver cancer; the top five by mortality were lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, and cervical cancer. Conclusion From 2016 to 2023, the incidence and mortality trends of malignant tumors in Shidian County remained generally stable. Targeted health education should be carried out for different cancer types and age groups; screening and early diagnosis and treatment strategies should be continuously optimized; and prevention and control among high-risk populations should be strengthened, with the ultimate goal of reducing incidence and mortality rates.
